Five-Star QB DJ Lagway To Florida

The Florida Gators landed a major commitment on December 7, as five-star 2024 quarterback DJ Lagway announced his verbal pledge to Florida over USC and Clemson among many others. Lagway visited Florida multiple times over the summer, including the Gators annual Friday Night Lights camp that made a huge impression on him. The Gators clearly made him their top target for the 2024 class and it paid off. He is the type of prospect that can and very likely will bring other big time players to Gainesville with him. Being able to land a program changing player at the most important position is a huge win for Billy Napier and the Gators.

Standing at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, Lagway is one of the most highly recruited quarterbacks in the country. The Willis, Texas native checks in as the number 24 overall player and the fourth ranked quarterback according to the 247sports composite rankings. Schools from all over the country wanted him because he's has shown an ability to make every throw on the field, but can escape the pocket and make plays with his legs as well. He is the type of player that can hurt you in all facets of the game.

Florida identified Lagway early and pegged him as their top target regardless of position in the 2024 class. Billy Napier and Ryan O'Hara deserve a lot of credit for landing his commitment. The staff is showing why they were hired by The University Of Florida. They were brought in to build the program back to a championship caliber. With Lagway on board, it is definitely a step in the right direction.

This season, D.J. Lagway finished the year with 2,081 yards with 24 touchdowns and 5 interceptions while completing just under 67% of his passes. He's also ran the ball 50 times for 517 yards with seven more touchdowns. He plans on playing both football and baseball when he gets to Florida, so Kevin O'Sullivan is very happy to have him on board as well.

Looking at his film, he's a very accurate passer that will continue to improve. He has a big arm and is one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the the 2024 class. He's listed as a dual threat quarterback, so he has the ability to make plays with his legs as well. I compare him to former Clemson quarterback Tahj Boyd. Lagway and Boyd are about the same size and share similar traits as both a passer and a runner.

DJ is the type of kid that can be a game changer at the quarterback position for the Florida Gators. He has a chance to be an All-SEC and All-American caliber player. His arm strength, accuracy and mobility is why he's one of the elite players at his position in the 2024 class. He’s exactly the type of player and leader that Florida needs to get back to competing for SEC and National Championships. He's has all the traits you want in an elite level signal-caller, great leader, plays with extreme confidence and poise and has a very high football IQ. He’s a great person, player and has a very bright future ahead of him.
