Four-Star WR Eugene Wilson III Commits to Florida

The Florida Gators have landed another huge commitment as Four-Star WR Eugene Wilson III has committed to Florida over Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia among others. Wilson has visited Florida multiple times and the coaching staff always made sure he was a priority every time he stepped on campus. The Tampa (Fla.) native from Gaither High School is ranked the #146 overall player and the #10 athlete in the country according to 247sports composite rankings.

Billy Napier and Keary Colbert deserve a lot of credit for the recruitment of Wilson as they made him feel like a priority every time he visited. Those relationships played a major role for Wilson, and ultimately why he decided Florida was the right school for him on Friday, July 8. The Gators provide him with an opportunity come in and play early and often, and he has the ability to make some big time plays in the slot.

Florida plans to use Wilson in the slot, where he can be a mismatch for safeties and linebackers due to his elite speed. Florida hasn’t had great production from the slot position since the departure of Kadarius Toney, so landing Wilson was definitely a must win for Billy Napier.

Wilson is the type of player that can come in and play a multitude of roles as a receiver and a return man early in his career. Standing at 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds, he’s a threat to score any time he touches the ball. He’s one of the fastest players in the country, and Florida has a history of having players with elite speed (Percy Harvin, Jeff Demps & Chris Rainey among several others) on their roster. When you turn on his film, his speed, route running and ability to make cuts are what jump out immediately. Napier will make sure to find ways to get the ball into his hands a lot once he gets on campus.

Eugene Wilson III is the type of kid that leads by example and exudes confidence with his coaches and teammates. I believe he has a chance to be one of the best players in the SEC within his first two years on campus. He has a very bright future both on and off the field and I can’t wait to see how his career unfolds.
