Gators Men Set New Collegiate Record in 4x400m at Tom Jones Memorial

The Florida Gators track and field team took the stage again in Gainesville for their final home meet of the season the 16th and 17th of April .


Things got started on Friday with Edward Shelikoff setting a new personal best in the discus. His mark of 57.43m puts him inside the top 25 in the nation. Thea Jensen also set a personal best in the discus with her throw of 48.05m.


In the Javelin, Mark Porter continued to move up in the school and national ranks. Porters mark of 71.52m places him at 13th in the nation. Zach Godbold also threw a personal best of 64.88m.


Over on the distance side, Imogen Barrett made her season debut in the 1500m and ran an outstanding time of 4:14.55, a personal best and good enough for eighth in the nation. Vasileia Spyrou also finished in 4:18.31, also a personal best. For the men, freshman Joe Wester ran a personal best of 3:44.00.


To top off Friday, Collin Sieffert set a personal best in the 400mH as he finished in 51.28 seconds to break into the top 32 in the nation.


On Saturday things only got better for the Gators. In the prelims for the high hurdles, reigning NCAA indoor champion Grace Stark ran 12.67 seconds in the prelim to put herself first in school history. This is also the fastest wind legal time in the nation. Stark then went 12.58 seconds in a loaded final to improve her personal best and school record.


Imogen Barrett also continued her great weekend as she ran 2:01.65 in the 800m, moving her into third in school history as well as fourth in the nation.


Talitha Diggs also made her outdoor opener in the 400m race. In one lap around the track Diggs finished in 51.93 seconds, good enough for fifth nationally. In the quarter mile for the men, Ryan Willie also made his outdoor debut, finishing in 45.16 seconds. This time for Willie is fifth in the nation.


Florida also continued to put on a clinic on the jumps side of things as well. As per usual, the Gators went 1-2 in the women’s triple jump as Jasmine Moore landed at 14.07m (-0.3), and Natricia Hooper was right behind her with a personal best of 14.03m (-1.0). Claire Bryant also set a personal best in the high jump as she vertically jumped over 1.80m, moving her fourth into school history.


Then came the 100m dash for the men. Florida had four runners go 10.17 seconds or better. Dedrick Vanover and Jacory Patterson both went 10.11 seconds, Joseph Fahnbulleh was right behind them with a time of 10.15 seconds and Tyler Davis finished in 10.17 seconds. Florida now has five top 27 times in this event in the nation.


To end the weekend, the Gators set a new collegiate record in the Men's 4x400m relay. The team of Jacory Patterson, Ryan Willie, Jacob Miley and anchored by Champion Allison ran a time of 2:58.53 to break the record. This is the first collegiate team to run under 2:59.00.


Up next for the Gators is the LSU Invitational April 30th and distance runners and throwers will head to Jacksonville for the UNF Invitational April 29th and 30th.
