The Florida Gators are red hot on the recruiting trail as four-star WR Andy Jean committed to Florida while on campus Saturday afternoon. Jean is one of the best pure wide receivers in the country regardless of rankings. The Miami (Fla.) native checks in as the #332 overall player and the #42 wide receiver according to the 247sports composite rankings. With a strong senior season, I definitely expect him make a jump in the rankings.
Jean has been an explosive playmaker for his high school for the past couple of years. The former Miami commit became one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the country and racked up numerous offers from all over the country from places like Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M and many others. Like Aidan Mizell, he’s also a two sport athlete, running track for Miami Northwestern. The 4x100m relay team that Jean was apart of clocked the fastest time in the nation this past season with a 40.95. He, Mizell and Eugene Wilson III bring speed in space, which is something the Gators have sorely missed over the past couple of years.
Keary Colbert, who many fans were skeptical about after the close of the 2022 cycle has completely turned perception around over the past month and deserves a lot of credit for the recruitment of not just Andy Jean but all the WR's committed. He made Jean feel like a major priority and built a great relationship with him. Jean attended Friday Night Lights and the "Grill in the Ville" on Saturday when he tweeted out that he would be announcing his commitment later that afternoon. Alabama, Texas A&M and Miami recruited him hard, but it was his relationships with Colbert and Billy Napier that won out for the Miami Northwestern High School star.
Standing at 6-foot1, 180 pounds, Andy Jean has the size and speed to play outside or in the slot because he provides mismatches for opposing defenses. As I eluded to earlier, speed in space is something that Florida needs, and Jean provides that. What really jumps out when you turn on his film is his route running. He’s one of the most polished route runners I’ve ever seen at the high school level. He also returns kicks for his team as well, and he’s a threat to score every time he touches the ball.
Andy Jean is a great player, and one of the most underrated recruits in the country. I believe he has a chance to be one of the best wide receivers in the country when it’s all said and done. Watching his film, there’s two players I’ve compared him to: Antonio Callaway and Amari Cooper. He has a very bright future both on and off the field and I can’t wait to see what type of wide receiver he develops into when he steps on campus.
