The Florida Gators had a huge day in recruiting on July 7 as they landed multiple big time commitments at key positions. About 30 minutes after Four-Star QB Marcus Stokes flipped from Penn State to Florida, the Gators landed another huge commitment from Four-Star RB Treyaun Webb. Webb committed to Florida over Penn State and South Carolina. He’s the cousin of former Florida Gators DB Dee Webb. The Jacksonville (Fla.) native is ranked the #162 overall player and the #5 running back in the country according to 247sports composite rankings.
Webb’s recruitment has been a rollercoaster for the past few years. He was initially listed as an athlete because he’s a two way player for Trinity Christian Academy. Schools were recruiting him as a running back and a safety. As a high school freshman, he committed to the Georgia Bulldogs because they gave him the opportunity to play running back. He decided to reopen his recruitment once he took more visits to other schools, including Florida.
Webb released a top three of Oklahoma, Ohio State and Georgia on June 23, 2021, eventually committing to the Sooners. After deciding to decommit once again, he wanted to take his time with the remainder of his recruiting process and take some more visits to other schools. Billy Napier and Jabaar Juluke came in and made Webb feel like a priority from the very beginning, and it really helped the Gators get back into the mix for him. He took several visits to Gainesville, and it seemed like they started to take the lead for him. The other two schools in consideration were South Carolina and Penn State. The Nittany Lions made things very close for Webb. The writers on 247sports were putting in crystal balls for him to pick Penn State. However, his relationships with Florida’s staff eventually won out.
Billy Napier and Jabaar Juluke deserve a lot of credit for landing Webb. They were relentless in their pursuit of him and showed him how important he was to the class. Webb has good speed, the ability to run between the tackles and is a good receiver out of the backfield. He’s a solid prospect that has a chance to be a really good player for the Gators.
Treyaun Webb is a great kid with a very bright future both on and off the field. He’s a leader by example in the classroom, on the field and is the type of person and player you want on your team. He works hard at his craft and will only get better when he gets to college. He caps off a great day in recruiting for the Florida Gators.
